Hustle Hack #39: Write Like You Talk
Write Like You Talk
With all the auto-generated AI (crap) content being generated, your audience is well-tuned to authenticity. And - spoiler alert - most AI-generated content sounds like your 8th-grade English teacher translated by someone whose first language is not English.
Ok. Only a little bit.
However, if your content sounds stiff or is filled with jargon and technical terms, people won’t connect.
And if they don’t connect, they won’t click.
Here’s the hack: write like you talk.
Imagine you’re explaining a product to your best friend over coffee.
You'd be excited and enthusiastic.
You'd use short sentences.
You wouldn't throw in jargon or technical terms - unless you know that your friend speaks fluent tech.
You'd say “you” more than “I.”
You'd use plain language.
Examples:
Don't do this:
- “Utilize this strategy to maximize efficiency.”
- "When you deploy this tool, your relevant stats will show marked improvement"
Do this:
- "Try this trick — it’ll save you time.”
- "This tool helped me fix my problem with posting on time."
Why this works:
✅ It’s relatable. People feel like they’re chatting, not reading a lecture.
✅ It’s clear. No one gets lost in complicated sentences.
✅ It builds trust. Real people buy from real people.
✨ Your Hustle Hack: Authentic beats academic. Talk to your audience like friends, and they’ll trust your recommendations.
